MENA Student Wins Undergraduate Language Grant to Study Turkish in Istanbul
February 26, 2019
Hannah Ni'Shuilleabhain (Medill '21 and MENA minor), received an Undergraduate Language Grant (ULG) in the amount of $5,000 to attend the intensive Turkish Language and Culture Program at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul this summer. Growing out of her long-term interest in Turkish language and culture, which she acquired through the novels of Elif Şafak, Hannah will complete the two-year Turkish language sequence at Northwestern at the end of this year. She will be in Istanbul for eight weeks improving her Turkish proficiency, attending lectures on various aspects of Turkish culture, history, and politics, and exploring the city. Upon graduation, Hannah plans to work as a foreign correspondent specializing in Turkey. Applications for the Undergraduate Language Grant skyrocketed this year, so we're very proud of Hannah for having qualified for this grant!
