Area(s) of Research Interest: Allison’s research focuses on eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Arabic travel writing by inexpert merchant-class authors. Her dissertation takes particular interest in the role of embodied knowledge, oral storytelling, improvisation, and dialect-based writing practices as it replots the development of modern Arabic literature alongside the co-temporal European Enlightenment and in advance of the later and better-known Arab Nahḍa. Her other interests include decolonization, poetry and poetics, medical humanities, performance studies, and archive studies.
